Your 2017 new year’s resolutions – how many have you achieved?

Do you remember your New Year’s resolutions? Those promises you made to yourself to exercise, lose weight, eat well, save money, spend more time with friends and families. Well how many have you achieved so far?

On THEZRW I really wanted to share with you Zoe’s School of Life. My happy neurotic type-a personality meant that at the time of writing this post we had completed 186 days since 1 January which means we are half way through 2017. How do I know this- well I set a half way reminder on my phone which reads half way through. It’s a little nudge to myself to remember those promises I made to myself. I call my resolutions promises, as a promise to yourself is something you should take seriously. After all who wants to let themselves down?

I wasn’t sure which direction this post would take but I wanted it to be useful to you the reader and also to give you an insight into myself. Here are the promises I made to myself at the start of 2017.

Reviewed suitable roles each weekend

Registered with 5 recruitment agencies

Never gave up even when rejected

Checked rightmove everyday
Visited some places my Prada bag or any other bag of mine wouldn’t be happy to sleep in let alone me

Exercise 30 minutes twice during the week and once at the weekend
Walk (2 hours) once a month

Always get back on it even if I fall off the bandwagon

Eurostar is booked, luxury hotel is booked.

Simply counting down the days until my first solo travel trip

Have a cup of tea/ a glass of vino with my Mum once a month
Arrange to physically meet at least two friends once a month

So these are my promises…..and in order to achieve these promises I have simple tips that I use to make sure I can keep my promises

WRITE IT DOWN! Now I am a fan of writing goals. I don’t believe in talking non-stop about what you want to achieve. Simply write it down and just do it! Writing my goals down and putting it somewhere visual for only me to see keeps my mind focused. Talking is just mere puff, doing is what counts.

DEADLINE!  Always set a deadline to achieve your promises. So at the start of 2017 I set myself a deadline to secure a new job by 1 July.  Deadlines gives you a parameter to work with and provide focus. Some promises like exercise are ongoing and don’t have deadlines and that’s okay as long as you remind yourself of the promise.

BREAK IT DOWN! When you make a promise to yourself you have to break it down into bitesize pieces. So even something simple like buying a flat was broken down into simple things like budget, which area.  Exercise is broken down to what I want to achieve on a weekly basis to ensure I maintain my fitness levels.

CONTINUE! In my I resigned post I wrote that one of the secrets of success was to continue.  You always have stumbling blocks but the key is to continue. For instance I confess that I have not exercised for 8 days as it has been so busy but I didn’t think to myself well I won’t bother anymore, instead I simply thought to myself only I will suffer when I cannot fit into my jeans so I got back into the gym and got that first painful workout done.

So if you have lost the motivation  and lost sight of  those promises you made to yourself at the start of the year you can still get back on track to make sure you don’t break a promise to yourself.

Do you remember your new year’s resolutions? Are you on course to achieve those promises?
