So I have just handed in my notice (literally 10 mins ago) and resigned! It’s something I have been wanting to do as I really wanted to make the next step up in my career and also move to a different sector. I feel so incredibly lucky to have secured a role as a Business Partner in an amazing 250 year old company! I say lucky, but I know luck had nothing to do with this moment. The journey to this moment wasn’t easy.
When I launched THEZRW I didn’t want it be all about the champagne and the clothes because there is more to life than champagne and clothes. I wanted to share with people the life lessons I have learned. My route to many things in life including landing a role as a Business Partner was not luck, it was hard work. Nobody really teaches you how to be successful or overcome hurdles but in time I have developed my own Zoe LUCKY tips that I live by and I hope these will hopefully inspire at least one person to know that opportunities and achievements are a mind-set not luck.
HAVE A PLAN!
You need to know where you are going and how you intend to get there. Yes there will be many obstacles along the way but a man without a plan is simply a fool.
LEARN TO DUST YOURSELF DOWN AND STAND!
Learn to dust yourself down and pick yourself up (quickly) when you fall. I have fallen so many times I have lost count. One thing I hate is dust and I don’t like lying in it for a long time so somehow no mater what gets chucked at me I like to stand quickly even if I still have wounds (those will heal, they always do).
Some people call it perseverance, I simply like to say continue. My best friend likes to say ‘just keep it moving’. Don’t stop, just continue. The only time you are allowed to stop is to evaluate, reassess and remodel but ultimate you must continue the journey.
Hold on but I just said continue. Mmm this is tricky to explain but I will try. Part of being ‘lucky’ is having the wisdom to know when to quit! Quitting isn’t giving up because you will continue but with something else that is better for you. Sometimes your current plan, job, relationship isn’t right and you need to quit. Learning to know what moments you need to quit can be self-love. Quitting should be distinguished from giving up because things are hard. Giving up is just lazy.
I love to cry! I once put on twitter that all I wanted to do was cry (I was having a good day but just fancied a cry). I firmly believe in crying but crying quickly. You can’t cry forever as that’s wasted emotion but you can cry for a little bit as that’s just validating your emotion.
SEE THE LIGHT!
You can get through some of life’s darkest moments if you believe that you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. In order to do that you have to continue and keep things moving and have faith that you will see the light. I mean if I can survive my ex boyfriend and I splitting up after we exchanged on a property (pretty sh** thing to do), buy my own amazing flat and continue to be fabulous then seeing the light is the way forward.
A delightful French waiter told me that champagne is also known as French water. Whatever you do in life drink plenty of French water. It is not just for special occasions (anyone that tells you that isn’t living life or is just plain boring). French water is there for life’s, good, sad, happy and bad moments.
And on that finally note I have some fabulous plans to drink plenty of French water to celebrate this amazing ‘lucky’ moment. Zoe x
